Thunder Beings - Wakíŋyaŋ Oyate

Every year during the Spring Equinox the Lakota perform a special ceremony to welcome back the Wakíŋyaŋ Oyate. This is a time of renewal and awakening of the spirit. Wakíŋyaŋ is a very sacred spirit the protector of truth for mankind. He can give life and take it away. The legendary Lakota warrior Crazy Horse carried the wakíŋyaŋ spirit with him. It is where he is said to have drawn his strength.
