(Fine Art Print) Ledger Art - Respect Honors Wisdom

$ 50.00

Seven Fires Art is pleased to offer this excellent example of traditional Ledger Art by noted Lakota Artist Merle Locke!

Respect Honors Wisdom ~ Courage Unite Generosity

This ink and acrylic on ledger sheet from a Gordon, Nebraska hardware store on the border of the Pine Ridge Reservation, signed Merle Locke and dated 2019, is a great example of traditional Native American ledger art.

The sheet captures a moment in time when a clerk at the O'Connell & Burke Hardware Company issued credit to one Dave Clark for one box of 25-20 shells and six of something else on an April day in 1920. Locke uses ochre tones to depict yet another moment in time, a couple standing firm on their land, perhaps awaiting the return of the buffalo. 13" x 9"
